Delta govt. sacks hospital CMD over negligence of duty

Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa at the weekend fired the Chief Medical Director,( CMD), Dr Vincent Oziga of the Eku General Hospital for alleged negligence and failure to address the challenges of the hospital.
While the Governor ordered the immediate replacement with Dr Oyeye Lucky, Okowa said that it was the beginning of a new dawn in the health sector and in line with his promises to ensure accessible health care for Deltans.
However, the sack of Dr Vincent Oziga was coming on heels of the recent sack of the zonal Medical Director of the General Hospital, Agbor, Dr Philemon Okolie over alleged poor administration of the hospital among others.
But the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Ononye Mordi who confirmed this to journalists in Asaba, explained that government would no longer hesitate to replace any medical director who failed to meet up with the responsibilities of providing improved services to patients, adding that leadership of government hospitals had the responsibilities to provide effective and efficient services in order to be able to justify the resources government was putting into the health sector.
He called on all staff working in the hospitals to work in the best interest of the patients and at the same time the communities with a view to addressing the loss of trust by the public due to decline in quality of health care in the hospitals, adding that the leadership of the hospital was directed to fashion out strategies to improve the quality of health delivery as government had commenced renovations and facelift of hospitals and procurement of more medical equipment.
Dr Ononye Mordi added that with the state’s Contributory Health Scheme and its collaboration with Federal Government in the implementation of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, more money would be available to fund the health sector.
It would be recalled that last week the state government fired the zonal Medical Director Agbor Central Hospital for what was described as poor services to the public.
