Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has reiterated his call on the federal government to close land borders to prevent the influx of foreign herdsmen.
The Governor who made the call yesterday in Makurdi during a visit to General Hospital Apir to see a victim, Mrs.Grace Zeku whose arm was amputated by suspected herdsmen, observed that it is wrong to allow herdsmen from Mali, Niger and Chad to come into the country, commit atrocities and go away scout free.
He therefore, stressed the need to take stock of herdsmen in the country especially in the State.
“No country can accept this. How can people come from other countries and commit these acts. They should be checked”, he advised.
Ortom noted that the attack on the woman is an isolated one which has thrown her and the family into great agony and pain.
He pledged that efforts will be made through the Security Council to beef up security in the State to prevent any further attacks
It could be recalled that, last week Mrs. Zeku was attacked by persons suspected to be herdsmen in Gboogyo village, Guma local government government area while she was working on her farm.
