Date:

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer and intercepted 21 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in separate operations across the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the operations were part of intensified intelligence-led efforts by the Command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, to combat illicit drug trafficking.

According to the statement, operatives of the Ugborikoko Division on April 8, 2026, at about 12:00 p.m., intercepted a tricyclist along Airport Road in Effurun during routine traffic duties.

The suspect, identified as Evans Emmanuel Akpowene, reportedly aroused suspicion due to his conduct.

A search of the tricycle, prompted by a strong odour, led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be illicit drugs, including Indian hemp, Canada Loud, Colorado, and Monkey Tail.

The suspect and the exhibits, including the tricycle with registration number EFR 173 VD, are currently in police custody, while investigations continue.

In a separate operation, the Command said operatives of the Dragon Patrol Team on April 2, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m., intercepted a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna bus along the Ozoro/Kwale Road near Ebendo Community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly fled into a nearby bush upon sighting the police. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 21 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
