Dennerby positive on fitness, pace to beat Cameroon

Super Falcons coach, Thomas Dennerby has unfolded the tactical plans he has for Tuesday’s semi-final clash against Cameroon at the Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana, as he says his side will try to outsmart their foes with high fitness levels and fast-paced play.
Dennerby was excited to get a 6-0 trouncing of Equatorial Guinea on Saturday, but feels Tuesday’s clash with The Indomitable Lionesses will be twice as tough.
With that in mind, the Swedish gaffer says he wants his players to step up their efforts, in order to add extra doses of fitness and pace to their game against Cameroon and win the clash in Accra.
It will be a repeat of the 2016 AWCON final, which the Falcons won 1-0 in Yaoundé against the hosts, and Dennerby expects Tuesday’s tie to be a tough match for his side.
The winner will book an automatic ticket to next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, as one of Africa’s three representatives, while the loser will have to come top in the then third place match, but Dennerby says only victory is on his mind.
Dennerby stated: “We already have a plan of the players who will start against Cameroon. Hopefully, we will play our best game of the tournament against Cameroon.
“There are always things we can improve and we try to do that with every single training session. We have a good chance to get better and better.
“You can always improve the team, sometimes we had good passing play through midfield, but sometimes we are a bit too slow because we want to use the high fitness level of the team to bring up the pace so as to get the other team tired.”
