DFID offers free medical treatment to pregnant women in Jigawa

No fewer than 6000 pregnant women and children from hard to reach communities in Jigawa state have so far benefited with a free medical treatment by the DFID funded programme “Maternal and New Born Child Health” (MNCH).
The MNCH Coordinator for outreach programme in the state, Hajiya Saratu Muhammad Lawan dropped the hint while speaking to newsmen at the completion of the exercise for the month of February in the state.
She explained that, four hard to reach communities were selected and covered in each of the three local government namely Taura, Garki and Ringim local government.
According to her, the services which include drugs was provided to the beneficiaries through their MNCH monthly outreach to hard to reached rural communities in the state.
Mrs Saratu added that, the services provides to the communities during the outreach exercise include antenatal, malaria treatment counseling, referral and other related medical treatment for children and pregnant women.
“For this month of February we have already completed the exercise which was very successful even though very tedious due to the nature and terrain of the places we visited”
“This out reached exercise is always given us an insight on how people in the rural area are willing to access medical treatment but due to their geographical location and sometimes ignorance on the process they are so skeptical in attending the hospital”
She stated that, next month they will visits another local governments for similar exercise and at the end of the project they will hand over all their reports and findings to to state government for continuation and other appropriate action.
