Disaster mgmt: FEMD, FCT Fire Service pledge upscaling of collaboration

In the wake of recent disastrous occurrences, the Acting Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Engineer Abdulrahman Mohammed has pledged to consolidate on the existing relationship with the FCT Fire Service to tackle emergencies in the Territory.
Abdulrahman stated that inter agency collaboration was key in tackling disasters and emergencies in the FCT.
He spoke when he played host to the Ag Director of the FCT Fire Service, Mr Zacheus Adebayo, at the conference room of FEMD, according to a recent statement from FEMD’s Head, Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, which was made to newsmen.
He particularly, charged the FCT Fire Service to ensure that facilities the Fire School at Sheda was in top condition for training of firemen.
He therefore called for more synergy between both agencies for the sustainable development of the FCT.
Similarly, Acting Director Administration at the Department, Mr. Azeez Kadiri also called for basic fire fighting drills for FEMD staff as well as risk assessment of the Department’s corporate office.
On his part, the FCT fire boss, Mr. Zacheus Adebayo identified training and lack of awareness as factors hindering safety management in the country.
Adebayo also reiterated the need for collective effort to address the issue of emergencies in the nation’s capital city and environs.
