Professor Muhammad Sani Bello, a respected academic, traditional titleholder, and seasoned politician, recently tendered his resignation as the Commissioner for Information in Kaduna State. The sudden exit of the Mainan Zazzau from the cabinet of Governor Uba Sani has stirred fresh conversations around loyalty, governance, and political inclusiveness within the state.
Professor Bello, who played a pivotal role in the emergence of Senator Uba Sani as Governor, served as the Director General of the Gubernatorial Campaign Council. He was appointed Commissioner for Education on July 27, 2023; and was later redeployed to the Ministry of Information in May 2025. His recent resignation, effective immediately, was conveyed in a letter dated July 29, 2025, addressed to the Secretary to the State Government. While the letter expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, it did not detail the reasons behind his departure.
However, political observers and insiders at the Government House suggest deeper issues. According to multiple sources, a significant number of the Governor’s appointees, reportedly over 80% have grown increasingly disillusioned with his leadership style.
Governor Uba Sani’s perceived failure to adequately reward or retain the loyalty of those who supported his rise to power has raised eyebrows. Critics argue that instead of empowering core supporters, he has brought into his administration individuals who were previously opposed to his gubernatorial ambition. This pattern has led some to describe his leadership as one that “rewards loyalty with betrayal.”
The resignation of Professor Bello is thus seen not just as an isolated decision, but as a reflection of broader tensions within the administration. Allegations have surfaced regarding the Governor’s handling of internal affairs, with reports of disrespectful treatment of appointees during meetings and a general atmosphere of mistrust.
With the 2027 elections on the horizon, Professor Bello’s departure could mark a turning point. There is growing speculation that he may align with opposition forces determined to challenge Governor Uba Sani’s re-election bid. Such a move, if realized, could reshape the political dynamics in Kaduna State.
While the full implications of Professor Bello’s resignation remain to be seen, one thing is clear: his exit underscores the challenges within the current administration and may signal the beginning of a new phase in Kaduna’s political journey.
