Driver arraigned for breach of trust

The police have arraigned a driver, Wilfred Soonam, 28, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for criminal breach of trust.

The prosecutor, Cpl Emmanuel Adikwu, said that on June 27, Oyama Egba, of No. 10, Nyagba Close, Maitama, Abuja, reported the case at Maitama Police Station.

He said that on June 16, Egba entrusted the accused with his Toyota Camry car with registration number ABJ 134 NE valued N600, 000 for commercial purpose.

The prosecutor said the accused was expected to remit some money to the complainant, but he dishonestly absconded with the car to Makurdi and converted the car to his personal use.

He said offence contravened Section 312 of the Penal code.

If found guilty as charged the accused shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years or with fine or with both.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr. Chkwuemeka Ubani, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one reliable surety in like sum who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

Ubani adjourned the case until August 4 for continuation of hearing. (NAN)
