Dry season farming: FG distributes inputs to farmers in Gombe

The federal government through the ministry of Agriculture and Food has supplied farmers with wheat inputs in Gombe to enable them to be self reliance in dry season farming.
Making this disclosure, Senior Special Assistant to the minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Adewoyi Adeyemi during his familiarisation visit to the state to ensure that the inputs reached the beneficiaries, noted that the gesture is part of intervention in the sector.
Adeyemi who was accompanied by Journalists, in the state visited some of the farms where he saw wheat dry farming on progress.
He assured government commitment which he said will do more by expanding its support to ensure that it sustained the dry farming season.
While emphasizing it’s commitment, he said government were able to procure inputs for farmers to buy it at affordable rates that will be use in their farms.
According to him, government is trying it best to put emphasizes on local production than imports inorder to build nation economy.
He said plan is on the way where government will provide more farm inputs for farmers including solar power to enable them farm effectively during raining and dry season.
Speaking in an interview shortly after the visit, the chairman of wheat farmers association Gombe branch, Mr. Bala Garba appreciated with the gesture by the federal government which he said the gesture had touched the lives of the people.
He said with these intervention, it will go along way by assisting farmers to carryout their businesses without.
Our correspondent reports that at Lariye village, the media also engaged some farmers in an interview which Ibrahim Babayo and Abubakar Ahmed were satisfied with the gesture which they said they will do everything it takes to ensure that they get a bumper harvest to minimised hardship in the country.
They explained that when they started wheat dry season farming last year they were only 3 people but we are happy announced that today we have increased our number to 20 people which according to them as time goes on they will increase to 60.
They also explained that wheat farming only last for 3 months to it harvest so we are appealing to government not to hesitate to support us with farm implements in good time.
