The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, will chair discussions on the achievements, reforms and challenges of Nigeria’s education sector under the administration of President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 Education Summit scheduled for July 15 in Abuja.
The summit, organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN), is themed: “Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress, and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector.”
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, ECAN Chairman, Mr. Chux Ukwuatu, said the summit is designed to promote informed policy dialogue and strengthen collaboration among stakeholders committed to advancing education in Nigeria.
According to Ukwuatu, the event will bring together policymakers, education experts, academics, development partners, school administrators, researchers, civil society organisations, student representatives and media professionals from across the country.
He said the summit would provide a strategic platform for participants to evaluate the impact of the Tinubu administration’s education reforms, assess implementation progress and identify practical solutions to the persistent challenges facing the sector.
Ukwuatu noted that discussions would focus on major reforms introduced by the Federal Government, with stakeholders expected to recommend innovative strategies for improving access, quality and equity across all levels of education.
He added that Dr. Alausa would officially declare the summit open and lead discussions on the Federal Government’s education agenda, highlighting key milestones achieved over the past three years and areas requiring sustained policy attention.
The ECAN chairman said representatives of government agencies, tertiary institutions, professional bodies, development partners and the media would contribute perspectives aimed at strengthening policy implementation and improving institutional performance across the education sector.
The summit will also feature an award ceremony recognising individuals and institutions that have demonstrated outstanding leadership, innovation and commitment to education and human capital development in Nigeria.
Among those to be honoured are the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu; Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono; Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi; and Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.
Ukwuatu said the awards recognise visionary leadership, institutional reforms, commitment to quality education and sustained efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s education system in line with national development priorities.
He expressed confidence that the summit would produce actionable recommendations, deepen stakeholder engagement and reinforce ongoing efforts to build a more inclusive, resilient and globally competitive education sector in Nigeria.
