The Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) and Pest Control Association of Nigeria (PECAN) are advocating for a clean environment to tackle and reduce effect of malaria amongst Nigerians in the country .
The two organisations made the disclosure on at the weekend during a walk campaign from Area 3 to UTC market in 10, of the Garki District, in Abuja, to mark pre-commemoration of the 2022 World Malaria Day.
They emphasized that the collaboration was necessary in order to raising awareness on Malaria and the need to maintain clean and healthy environment to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes in our surrounding.
Speaking at the awareness campaign, EHORECON Registrar,
Dr Baba Yakubu Mohammed noted that
Malaria remained a major public well being problem that should be uprooted from the well being lives and surroundings.
“Our Surroundings performs a major position in relation to illness prevention, what ever we give to the environment is what we get in return.
“We all know that any illness attributable to a vector may be eradicated if we assault the vector, attacking the vector additionally means a strategy not by the crude means as a result of we all know mosquitoes play a major position in our ecosystem.
“So we aren’t coming with the mission of eliminating Mosquitoes, we’re to remove Malaria, not mosquitoes,” he emphasised.
He said “We’re coming based mostly on our abilities constructed on science-based analysis. We’re coming with new and built-in strategies which require bodily, chemical and organic strategies to handle mosquitoes and remove Malaria,” malaria remained a major disease of mankind and the environmental health workers would support the ongoing campaign to eliminate it.
According to him, the elimination of malaria would reduce economic burden on citizens estimated at about N2 trillion.
He expressed confidence that the elimination of the Malaria scourge was achievable with strong collaboration.
The registrar said that collaboration between the Ministries of Environment, Health and Agriculture, as well as other relevant stakeholders would enhance the fight against the menace.
The FCT Chairman of PECAN, Terungwa Abari, said creating strong awareness on the impact of mosquito to the health and economy of Nigerians would help to eliminate the malaria scourge.
“We must create strong awareness to ensure that everybody comes together to fight mosquitoes.
“We need to mobilise ourselves and make sure that we achieve the fight in the country.
“It is affecting us seriously.
It has to be a collaborative approach for us to get rid of the mosquito.“
The involvement of the private sectors is also important, we will channel all our resources including our knowledge and work assiduously towards the fight,” he said.
Abari urged Nigerians to ensure that their environment is clean and healthy.
