As Nigeria joins the rest of the world in celebrating this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has called for strengthened collaboration between civilians and security agencies to effectively tackle insecurity across the country.
Prof. Audi made the call on Friday after observing the Eid prayers alongside other Muslim faithful at the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Centre prayer ground in Guzape, Abuja.
He noted that the security challenges facing parts of the country are largely asymmetric in nature, but expressed optimism that ongoing joint efforts by security agencies would soon bring lasting solutions.
He also commended the President for sustained support to security institutions, which he said has contributed to improved security and a reduction in criminal activities nationwide.
The NSCDC boss urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation is vital in combating banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
He further encouraged Muslims and all citizens to uphold the values of devotion, discipline, and charity imbibed during the Ramadan period in their daily lives.
Audi also called on citizens to actively engage in civic responsibilities, support government initiatives, and safeguard critical national infrastructure within their communities.
He emphasized that security is a collective responsibility, warning that vandalism of public assets ultimately affects all citizens.
He congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan and wished them a peaceful and rewarding Eid celebration.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam and Executive Director of the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society of Nigeria, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, who led the Eid prayers, urged Muslims to sustain the spiritual lessons of Ramadan and avoid actions contrary to Islamic teachings. He also called for continuous prayers for the nation and its leaders,
asking for divine guidance in governance.
The cleric further appealed to governments at all levels to prioritize their constitutional responsibility of ensuring the security of lives and property, as well as the welfare of citizens.
He stressed that no meaningful development can occur without security, and wished the Muslim Ummah a joyous and fruitful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
