The Nigerian Police Force yesterday paraded ten suspects over the torture of three women at the Ejigbo area of Lagos State.
Police Public Relations officer,Mr. Frank Mba while parading the suspects at the Adeniji Adele police station in Lagos State, declared four men wanted in connection with the torture.
“The Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike was directed by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar to take over the case. After a thorough and painstaking reconstruction of the crime scene on February 13th, twelve suspects were initially arrested but after a comprehensive identification parade, the victims and the witnesses identified ten suspects and even went on to attach roles each person played in the dastardly act.
“The investigators also conducted search in the suspects’ houses where they recovered items including a Dane gun”, Mba said and added that the police have established a prime-facie case against the suspects.
He gave their names as Isiaka Waheedi,the market male leader,Saheed Adisa,Lateef Tijani,Ahmed Adisa,Oluruntoyin Daudu,the female market leader,Adekunle Adenuga,Jimoh Busari and Azeez Akinosun.
“These persons claimed to be Oodua People’s Congress members providing security at the Oba Morofu International Market Ejigbo Lagos state, tortured and dehumanized three women over allegations that they stole pepper valued at N50. The Baba Oloja (Isiaka) masterminded this dastardly act and went on to extort N50,000 from the victims; one of the women, one Mrs Juliana Agomah suffered grievous injuries and was taken to her home in Benin Republic where she later died”.
Mba said the Force will charge the suspects to court for “conspiracy, causing grievous bodily harm, indecent assault and murder”.
He urged members of the public to provide useful information that will lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
Dr. Joe Odumakin,the Founder/Cordinator Women Arise For Change Initiative commended the police and the Lagos State government for the prompt attention the case received and urged Nigerians to speak out when evil conducts are being practiced.
