A front contender in the forthcoming primary election of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state, Engr. Kayode Ojo has described Governor Biodun Oyebanji as a drowning man who is now clutching onto anything within his imagination to emerge as the candidate of the party for the governorship election taking place early in 2026.
Ojo, who spoke to newsmen after his screening was reacting to petitions against him by some stakeholders, whom he insisted were being sponsored by the governor to have him disqualified from the primary election scheduled for 27th October, 2015.
He added that he is the choice of a majority of the stakeholders and that he remains confident in clinching the ticket to win the election for the party and to help secure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The aspirant equally pledged his loyalty to the party and President Tinubu, adding that he has confidence that they would ensure that the primary election was transparent without any form of manipulation.
On allegations that he was involved in anti-party activities, Ojo denied the claims, and rather claimed that it was the governor who allegedly appointed several members of the opposition into government, including the State Executive Council, even when they have not defected to the APC.
“How can I be involved in anti-party? I’m a core party member. We all know who has been doing anti-party. I am not the one that appointed over 170 card-carrying members of the opposition into government. I have been helping party members, employing them, and supporting their families,” Ojo stated.
Meanwhile, another aspirant, Hon. Abimbola Olajumoke Olawunmi, has raised concerns over a petition allegedly written against her, questioning how details from the nomination forms she submitted to the party office were accessed by outsiders to use in petitioning against her.
Olawunmi who was spoke after her screening said she is confident of winning the primary because she has all what it takes to make the state better.
“What I find shocking is that someone got hold of information from the form I submitted to the party office and used it to write a petition against me. I want to know how the person accessed my form in the first place. That is a minus on the part of the party,” she stated.
