The House of Representatives on Wednesday recorded another round of defections, with four members from Kano State leaving the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The development was formally disclosed on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, who read out the letters conveying the lawmakers’ decisions during plenary.
Those who switched allegiance are Sani Wakili (Minjibir/Ungogo), Muktar Zakari (Tarauni), Umar Datti (Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam), and Abdulhakeem Ado (Wudil/Garko).
The latest defections add to the growing instability within party ranks in the National Assembly. Just a day earlier, the chamber witnessed a similar development, as the Peoples Democratic Party lost five members, while two lawmakers also exited the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The trend underscores ongoing political realignments ahead of future electoral contests.
