A newly married couple, Funmilayo Bamidele and Rev. Abiodun David, have been abducted by armed assailants in Kogi State.
The couple were reportedly returning from their engagement ceremony in Eruku, Kwara State, when their vehicle was intercepted on Saturday evening.
They were travelling with four other passengers along the Iyemero–Eruku route when the assailants struck.
The incident was initially reported to have occurred in Kwara State.
However, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, Dada Sunday, clarified on Sunday that the abduction took place in Kogi State.
Sunday said the council remained concerned because the victims were returning from an event held within the local government.
He explained that the bride was believed to be from Eruku, where the couple had held their engagement ceremony.
According to him, the vehicle was initially expected to pass through the Isanlu Road.
He said the driver later opted for an alternative route to drop off the best man and other members of the group at Iyamoye.
“The vehicle was subsequently intercepted by armed assailants along the Iyemero–Eruku route in Kogi State,” Sunday said.
The couple and the other occupants were reportedly taken away by the assailants.
The whereabouts of the four other passengers remained unknown as of press time.
Sunday said security agencies and other relevant authorities were working to locate the victims and secure their safe release.
He also stressed that Iyemero is in Kogi State, not Kwara State, urging an end to reports that placed the incident in Kwara.
Meanwhile, calls placed to the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, were unanswered as of press time.
