Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has emerged unopposed as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Enugu West Senatorial District during the party’s primary election held at the weekend in the state.
This is even as the former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, defeated the wife of the late Senate President, Margaret Chuba Okadigbo, who is the incumbent Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District in the Senate.
A statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Uche Anichukwu, said Ekweremadu emerged unopposed, having polled all the 294 valid votes cast by the delegates from all the five local government areas in the senatorial zone.
The statement also said Ekweremadu, shortly after his victory, announced the decision of the PDP leaders in the state to throw their support behind Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to emerge as the PDP flab bearer in Monday’s gubernatorial primaries.
The Returning Officer, Innocent Agbo, said “delegates for Enugu West Senatorial District are 315, but we had 299 accredited delegates, Senator Ike Ekweremadu scored 294 votes. We had 5 invalid votes.”
In a related development, former Minister of Aviation, Stella Odua, has emerged the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial primary election held in Anambra North Senatorial zone, having polled 259 votes to defeat other contestants in the election acclaimed as free, fair and peaceful.
Announcing the result, the returning office, Yakubu Daiti, declared that other contestants were the incumbent Senator Margery Okadigbo, who got eight votes, John Emeka, who polled fifteen votes and Samuel Ikefuna, who got ten votes respectively.
