Chairperson of Kaduna Emergency Nutrition Action Plan (KADENAP),
Aisha Ummi El’Rufai has sought media support to end malnutrition in Kaduna State.
She described the media as the best platform to sensitize the people particularly those in remote areas on the dangers of malnutrition.
She explained that the increase cases of malnourished children was alarming in the state.
KADENAP she said has set up Community Management Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) sites in three Local government Area of the state targeted in the first phase of KADENAP activities in Igabi, Zaria and Makarfi LGAs.
’A Total of 11,540 children were admitted in three pilots LGAs from January to August 2017. Out of which 7,117 were exited, 5,968 were recovered while 213 children were not recovered.
“ A total of 816 children defaulted and 120 children were reported to have died.
“KADENAP also engaged in women empowerment programme with the hope of empowering women at the rural areas in collaboration with UNILIVER Nigeria in which the selected women are given products worth 46, 000 naira as seed stock. This will have positive impact on the children nutrition,” she said.
