The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), yesterday attributed the current poor electricity supply in the Federal Capital city and its environs to low power load allocation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The Company in a statement issued by the Head, Public Affairs, Mrs Patience Toyo said TCN has reduced the load allocation from the usual 500 megawatts to 150 megawatts recently thereby causing rationing and load shedding of some areas in order to serve other customers.
“The power or load allocation from transmission company of Nigeria to Abuja is only 150 megawatts which is a significant reduction from the manageable 500 megawatts which was been allocated to Abuja,” she said.
Mrs Toyo appealed to esteemed customers living in Abuja, kogi, Nasarawa and Niger to understand with the company about the current power supply situation pending improved power allocation from TCN.
“We regret any inconvenience this might caused you. We solicit for your patience and understanding while we expect improved power allocation from Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN),” she said.
Recall, Abuja Disco last week announced it had procured hundreds of transformers and other supporting equipment such as feeder pillars, conductors and accessories which are being installed in the service areas to address faults and overloaded circuits.
It said injection substations were recently upgraded in Lokoja and Suleja while reinforcement works would completed in few weeks to improve supply in Apo, Karu, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Lugbe and its environs.
Abuja Disco said it has improve customer relations in the various customer care centres at their business units as efforts are ongoing to establish a 24 hour call centre to handle complaints.
While urging customers to pay their bills promptly and guide against vandalism, it said it is modernising its vending system for prepaid meters to use cell phones, scratch cards, Point of Sales and other enhanced payment options.
