Without a doubt, the Nigerian music scene has long been a treasure trove of sensational praise and worship maestros. We have experienced their unique artistry as they continue to deliver thanksgiving and worship songs.

Among these shining talents, one name bears mentioning: Elijah Daniel, popularly known as Omo Majemu, who has recently released the single, “Opelope Jesu”.

This single sees him extending the rich tradition of uplifting praise music that resonates deeply with listeners at home and abroad.

Despite hailing from Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area in Ogun State, he was born in Lagos, the cultural hub of music in the country. His particular path to gospel music has been intricately woven with personal history and spiritual calling. Growing up, Omo Majemu was immersed in the atmosphere of the church, thanks to his mother, a dedicated chorister. It was here that he first fell in love with singing and joined the choir at the formative age of seven, performing at different churches and sharing the joy of worship.

With acts like Nathaniel Bassey, Mike Abdul, Tope Alabi, Chioma Jesus, and Prophet Akinola Fashawe as inspirations, Omo Majemu strives to follow in their footsteps, using his unique artistry and energetic performances to spread the message of hope and faith.

His stage name, Omo Majemu, which means ‘Covenant Child’, was bestowed upon him by his spiritual father and pastor, who recognised the hand of the Almighty in his life and music ministry. It is this name that has propelled him to pursue gospel music so excellently, even though he once envisioned his life as an actor and comedian.

Over time, he has released critically acclaimed projects such as Victorious Praise, Joyous Praise, Praise and Worship (Live), Intentional Praise, Vol. 1 (Live Ministrations), and Throne Room Worship. On “Opelope Jesu”, he continues to explore his unique sound, serving up another scintillating single.

“Opelope Jesu” opens with high-tempo local percussion, known as talking drums, which instantly sets the mood for energetic dancing. The percussion is further joined by drum rolls, bass and lead guitar plucks, and deft piano chords. While the impression you get from the composition is one of dancing, Omo Majemu is particularly reflective as he succinctly recounts the goodness of the Almighty in his life and music ministry.

There’s an excellence one has come to expect from his live performances, which he never seems to be in short supply of. While this can almost be attributed to the countless hours spent rehearsing with his band of instrumentalists and backup choir, Omo Majemu recognises God as the giver of all talents.

“Everybody, when you see me praise from Agege to Mowe/ Everlasting King is the reason behind my success/ Jesus, the mysterious father has answered all my prayers/ I am here to say my praise is never on holiday,” he croons excitedly, assisted by backup vocals and composition that ties everything together.

While this song can be said be said to be poignantly reflective for Omo Majemu, it is a record that calls to rememberance to always appreciate God for his goodness and wondrous works. “Opelope Jesu” is an open invitation to experience the divine presence of God and to remain grateful, and Omo Majemu masterfully delivers this message with passion and conviction.
