Emir of Zazzau to wade into FG, ASUP, COE strike

The Emir of Zazzau, Dr. Shehu Idris yesterday promised to on behalf of the traditional rulers in the country, intervene between the Government and the striking lecturers of Federal Polytechnics and Federal Colleges of Education in Nigeria with a view to bring to an end the over 10 months old strike.

Dr Idris made the pledge in his palace when he received the Chairman Council of Heads of Polytechnics (COHEADS) and Rector, Husseini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Matazu, who paid him a condolence visit over the death of of one of the Emirate members, Dr Mohammed Jumare.

Idris stressed the need for dialogue as a way of resolving issues, while assuring that he will speak to relevant authority concerned to address the situation with a view to bring the strike to an end.

“If there is anything you want the traditional institution to assist in talking to people in authority, we will be ready to assist.

“On behalf of the traditional body, we will do the utmost and also speak with the Federal Government on the matter”, the Emir further assured.

Earlier in his address, the COHEADS Chairman said they were in the palace to condole the Emir and the Emirate over the death of its council member, and to appeal to him to help intervene in the strike action that has paralyzed academics and other activities in Nigeria Federal polytechnics and Colleges of education.

According to him, “due to the strike action, a whole session has been lost” a situation he said is telling on parents, students and not helping the security situation of the country.”
