Tears flowed freely as hands trembled with gratitude. And under the scorching afternoon sun, excitement enveloped Chikaji community of Sabon Gari Local Government, as an Aide to Governor Uba Sani, in an extraordinary gesture of compassion, personally fed about 100 poor and hungry residents.
The touching outreach, which took place on Sunday afternoon, was not just a distribution of food — it was a moving moment that stirred raw emotion and jubilation.
Witnesses said it began quietly, with the aide arriving with pots of hot meals in Bandale and some volunteers. But as the aroma of food filled the air, word spread quickly, and the once quiet Bandale – some 300 metres from Nigeria Tobacco Company(NTC) turned into a gathering of the needy — elderly women, barefoot children, and tired labourers — all drawn by hunger and, ultimately, compassion.
“I haven’t eaten such a decent meal in two days,” said Malam Musa, a petty trader, with teary eyes as he received a plate. “Today, I have been reminded that the government still sees us.”
The governor’s aide, visibly emotional as he served alongside his team, said the initiative was inspired by Governor Uba Sani’s passion for the vulnerable and underserved.
“This is not politics. This is humanity. The governor has shown us the way — to lead with compassion. Today, I’m only doing a fraction of what he stands for.”
Community leaders hailed the act, calling it “inspiring” and “a sign of responsive governance with junior government officials reaching the grassroots.”
As plates emptied and hearts filled, one elderly woman whispered, “Today, we felt seen.”
A youth leader, Sule Rambo, said that considering the economic pressures of today’s Nigeria, this act of kindness has become a powerful reminder that leadership is not just in policies — but in presence.
