A representative of the United Nations Development Programme, (UNDP), Engineer Etiosa Uyigue yesterday said that each of the energy saving bulbs fixed at the National Energy Commission of Nigeria were at the cost of twenty thousand naira each.

Engineer Etiosa Uyigue revealed this while presenting a key-note address at the 8th international lighting conference of the Association of Illumination Professionals, (AIP) in Abuja.

“We bought each of the energy saving bulbs fixed at the National Energy Commission of Nigeria at the cost of twenty thousand naira each”.

Engineer Uyigue who said it costs government one million naira to generate one mega-watt of electricity, emphasised the need to go into efficient energy lighting and also urged Nigerians to endeavour to put off their out-door lights during the day in order to conserve energy for a greener tomorrow.

President of the Association of Illumination Professionals, Engineer Ajadi Yunus Abdulwahab urged Nigerians to patronise long lasting and reliable electricity bulbs which conserve energy and to shun the cheaper but fake electricity light bulbs which do not last.

While declaring the conference open, representative of the Minister of National Planning, Mr. Lanre Adekanye who is an Assistant Director in the ministry, urged the association to partner with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, to ensure high standards in the production or importation of electrical products.
