EU/UNICEF distributes N2.4bn health equipments, medicines to Bauchi LGAs

The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA) has flagged off the distribution of N2.4b health equipment and medicine donated by Eropean Union/UNICEF to 20 Local Government Areas in the state.
Speaking while flagging off the distribution at BSADP store, Dass road Bauchi Executive Chairman of PHCDA Bauchi, Pharmacist Adamu Gamawa said the commodities will be distributed to 110 health facilities across the state.
He said “we will distribute the commodities to 10 wards in Bauchi and Katagum Local government while 5 wards will get the commodities in other local government.
“We are starting the distribution from 7 local governments that are not participating in the measles campaign this week while we will move to the remaining Local governments next week because we don’t want the distribution to affect the measles campaign,” he added.
Adamu Gamawa said the agency has trained 600 community Oriented Resources persons that will be responsible to administer the drugs to the beneficiaries in the hard to reach areas “we don’t have to wait until they bring a child to the hospital for treatment, we want to treat and manage them at community level,” he said.
According to Gamawa, the drugs to administer to the communities are for diarrhea, malaria, pneumonia, antenatal, child spacing among others adding “we want to make sure that the drugs are available in all the health facilities”.
It could be recalled that EU/UNICEF donated the health equipment and medicines toBauchi state government as part of its effort to improve the health status of women and children under the European Union-Maternal and New-born Child Health and Nutrition project.
The project titled “Strengthening Primary Health Care and Community Resilience for improved Maternal, New-born, Child Health and Nutrition (MNCH) is a four year programme being implemented in the state.
