A former lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Muttaqha Rabe-Darma, has officially declared his intention to contest the Katsina Central Senatorial seat in the 2026 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Rabe-Darma made the declaration during a press conference in Katsina, where he said his decision followed widespread consultations with political associates, mentors, and constituents across the senatorial district.
He noted that growing public interest and sustained calls from supporters influenced his entry into the race, adding that a large delegation had previously visited his residence to demand clarity on his political ambition.
“I was compelled to respond to the calls of the people who believe I can represent them effectively,” he said.
The former academic stressed that his ambition is driven by a desire to serve and not to claim superiority over other aspirants, describing elections as a core part of democratic participation.
Rabe-Darma highlighted his background spanning academia, public service, and the private sector, noting that he began his career as a university lecturer in mechanical engineering and operational research.
He also disclosed that he later served in various government and institutional roles, including as Director of Research, Executive Director of the Katsina State Environmental Protection Agency, and Commissioner in different ministries.
According to him, he also worked with the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), where he contributed to improving institutional performance and stability.
The aspirant said he has been politically active since his student days and has previously contested for political positions.
Outlining his agenda, Rabe-Darma said his priorities include security, education reform, economic expansion, and improved living standards for residents of Katsina Central.
“My focus is on empowering the people and creating opportunities that will uplift communities,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to issue-based campaigning and urged supporters to maintain peaceful engagement throughout the electoral process.
