Former Lagos State Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Dayo Ekong, has announced her defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing prolonged internal crises and legal disputes within her former party.
Ekong, who made the disclosure on Wednesday in Lagos, said her decision was informed by what she described as the “unstable and protracted leadership challenges” that have rocked the Labour Party since 2023.
She stated that she currently holds a leadership position in the new party as Southwest Vice Chairman of the NDC, adding that preparations were ongoing to organise smooth party congresses across the region.
“I have moved on to the NDC. I am currently serving as the party’s Southwest Vice Chairman,” she said.
According to her, the move was necessary to safeguard her political ambitions and ensure continued participation in active politics.
“As a politician, one must find a stable platform to achieve set goals. The constant leadership crises in parties are discouraging, and I had to move forward,” Ekong added.
She expressed optimism about the prospects of the NDC, describing it as a fast-rising political platform with growing national acceptance.
“NDC is making waves everywhere. It is a new party and represents the hope of the future,” she said.
