The Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi (MHA) Campaign Organization has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship primary election in Nasarawa State, accusing the electoral committee led by Barrister Solomon Dalung of bias and manipulation.
In a statement signed by its Director General, Barrister Matthew John Abimiku, the campaign described the committee’s decision as “biased and without any justification,” insisting that its candidate emerged victorious based on results collated during the exercise.
The organization said it initially decided to trust the process despite concerns about the composition of the committee, however, it claimed that the exercise turned out to be “a brutally crafted and curated process spearheaded by a monstrous gang of self-serving politicians bent on latching on our fault lines.”
According to the statement, “MHA won the ADC gubernatorial primary election in Nasarawa State with a wide margin,” adding that the declaration made by the committee did not reflect the actual outcome of the poll.
The campaign committee particularly faulted the cancellation of results from Karu Local Government Area, arguing that the action exceeded the powers of the electoral committee.
“We disagree with the committee’s decision to cancel certain LGA results, particularly Karu LGA. This action is beyond the committee’s authority.”
It further alleged that Barrister Dalung acted outside his role as an impartial umpire, saying: “Barr Dalung lacks the powers to unilaterally cancel results duly conducted at the Ward level. Barr Dalung transmuted himself from an impartial umpire to an advocate for a particular aspirant, approbating and reprobating with a reckless abandon.”
Questioning the legitimacy of the committee’s decision, the organization said the process lacked transparency and consensus among members.
“The nature of the announcement defies procedural consensus, as it is not even clear how many members either agrees or disagrees with the decision.”
The MHA Campaign Organization also rejected the reasons given for cancelling the Karu LGA results, describing them as illogical, alleging that any disruption recorded during the exercise was caused by supporters of another aspirant.
“The reasons advanced for rejecting the Karu results lack any reasonable logic. Any purported violence at the venue was triggered by Gen Angbazo, who deployed soldiers led by his security aide to the distribution point.”
The campaign further argued that evidence of the alleged military intervention was publicly available, explaining that “This is not contestable due to viral videos that witnessed the invasion of the soldiers at the Karu LGA party office.”
While expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome, the organization urged its supporters to remain peaceful.
“We call on all supporters to remain calm and law-abiding as we pursue our legitimate objective of providing credible leadership for Nasarawa State. The votes of Karu LGA are valid and must count.”
The group maintained that the committee’s decision validated its earlier concerns about the neutrality of the electoral panel, noting that “Today’s declaration has justified our earlier position that the Dalung-led committee came to Nasarawa State with a predetermined agenda set out by the czar gatekeeper at the office of the National Chairman to deliver a particular aspirant against all odds.”
The campaign also described the outcome as a “stolen mandate,” claiming that the process was influenced by powerful interests within the party.
“Stolen mandate using a combination of a trusted aide of a party chieftain and an executioner from the hills of the plateau won’t stand the test of time. We will contest this injustice within all legal options available.”
