Senator Hassan Mohammed Gusau, who represented Zamfara-Central in the Sixth Senate, has praised President Goodluck Jonathan over the approval of a second term for the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sidi.
Speaking to a group of journalists in Abuja yesterday, Senator Gusau said the re-appointment is “clearly a reward for exceptional performance by Sani-Sidi during his first term in office as head of the National Emergency agency.”
He further said, “In the last four years, NEMA has gradually been transformed into a modern emergency management body because, as head of the agency, Sani Sidi successfully improved the emergency resilience and preparedness capacity of NEMA, in line with global best practices.”
The Senator recalled the performance of the agency during the 2012 flood disaster, which affected almost all parts of the country, adding that “the big challenge was efficiently handled by NEMA, which provided the needed assistance to victims all over the country.
“It is under the leadership of Sani-Sidi that NEMA achieved its present level of sophistication, as the agency now has the capacity to provide immediate agency relief to victims. NEMA now has ambulances, helicopters, and air ambulance for the purpose of managing emergency situations. These are laudable achievements that obviously won the DG a second term in office.”
Gusau also said the reappointment of the NEMA boss will further improve the agency and make it more focused to deliver efficient services to Nigerians, in fulfillment of the Transformation Agenda of the Jonathan administration.
