Following the recent discovery of a new wild polio virus in a sewage

along Kamacha bridge in Zaria local government area of the state, by medical experts a group, Journalists Against Polio, has alerted the community to be aware and take the warning serious, in order not to stall the progress recorded in the fight against polio.

The group stated this in a press statement, signed by the head of communication, Malam Lawal Dogara and made available to the media in Kaduna on Wednesday.

It added that the recent discovery of a new polio case in neighboring Tudun-Wada local government area of Kano state called for pro-active steps to check the spread.

The statement further disclosed that, as a preventive measure, the group in collaboration with its development partner, will embark on a house-to-house immunisation campaign in 10 local government councils in the state, namely: Zaria, Sabo Gari Igabi, Kudan, Kubau, Soba, Makarfi, Ikara, Lere and Giwa. The exercise, it said, is aimed at boosting the population’s immunity and stop the spread of the polio virus.

“JAP is appealing to parents to ensure that their children, who are between the ages of 1week to 59 months, are made available for the vaccination, regardless of their previous immunisation status”, the statement added.
