Confusion as explosion hits the multimillion naira Zungeru Hydro Electricity Power Dam, a federal government project in Niger state.
It was reliably gathered that the explosion occurred in the early hours of Monday, but the real cause of the explosion was still sketchy at as press time.
Sources from the area confirmed the incident, saying that several of the workers sustained various degrees of injuries and were undergoing medical attention while those with serious injuries were rushed to Minna, the state capital for urgent attention.
A source: “I saw injured workers being rushed to Minna for further medical attention, although we cannot say the actual number of people injured or dead if any but the injured are many”.
Meanwhile, Niger State Police Command has denied reports of an explosion at the Zungeru Hydro Power Station in Wushishi Local Government Area.
The Command’s PPRO, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that no such incident occurred at the power plant, saying that it is untrue.
The Zungeru Hydro-Electric Power Dam which is yet to be commissioned by the federal government is the fourth located in the Niger state, coming after Jebba, Kainji and Shiroro dams respectively.
