Fayose raises alarm over Supreme Court delay on ADC, PDP disputes

Social commentator Isaac Fayose has expressed concern over the delay by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in delivering judgment on the leadership crises affecting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Peoples Daily reports that the apex court had on April 22 concluded hearings on separate appeals arising from the disputes within the two opposition parties but reserved judgment without fixing a date for its ruling.
The panel, headed by Justice Mohammed Garba, heard arguments from parties involved before adjourning.
Six days after, uncertainty continues to trail the cases, with stakeholders, particularly aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing anxiety over the delay, especially as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for submission of party membership registers draws near.
Reacting in a video shared on his Facebook page, Fayose questioned the motive behind the delay, warning that it could undermine confidence in the judiciary.
“If the judiciary is truly the last hope of the common man, these judgments should have been delivered by now,” he said, suggesting that the delay may be politically motivated.
He further argued that the situation risks weakening opposition parties at a critical time, noting that Nigerians require viable alternatives in the political space.
The delay has heightened concerns over the preparedness of affected parties for the 2027 elections, as legal uncertainties continue to linger.
