The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Musa Askira, has withdrawn from the contest for the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Borno South ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Askira’s decision, conveyed in a statement by his aide, Bilyaminu Umar Ngulde, followed what was described as extensive consultations with party stakeholders across the district.
According to the statement, the APC leadership resolved to return the ticket to the incumbent senator, Mohammed Ali Ndume, prompting appeals for Askira to step down in the interest of party unity.
The lawmaker was said to have accepted the request in line with party loyalty and the need to consolidate support for the ruling party in the district.
“He has graciously complied and urges all his supporters across Askira-Uba and the entire Southern Senatorial District to rally behind Senator Ndume,” the statement read.
Askira also called for unity, peace and cooperation among party members and residents, stressing the importance of collective commitment to the development of Southern Borno.
The development signals early moves within the APC to streamline its ranks in preparation for the 2027 elections.
