FCT ex-judge berates civil servants over corruption

A retired judge of the Federal Capital Territory  (FCT) High Court of Justice, Hon. Justice Mwada, Balami, has berated the working class mainly civil servants of allegedly being the root cause of corruption in the country.

He noted that civil servants were the architect of corruption,  because they prepared vouchers for the elected politicians to enrich themselves.

Balami, who stated this while speaking to newsmen on the state of the nation in Abuja, opined that the civil servants, especially the treasurers as well as the accountants of the Government organizations who allegedly connived with the elected politicians to loot the resources of the country.

“I know in our  olden days, when I was employed in 1972, if you were given a loan to buy a bicycle and you bought motorcycle, you would be quarried. You must tell them where you got the money to buy a motorcycle.

“Today, you will see a level three officer riding a car that worth millions of Naira than a director, and nobody quarries him/her or nobody cares to find out where he/she gets the money. This can be regarded as a part of corruption we were talking about”, he stated.

He however, charged civil servants to desist from corrupt practices at their various offices, so that Nigeria will move forward for the benefit of young ones yet unborn.

Commenting on the forthcoming 2027 general elections, he advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deem it fit to arrest the electoral fraudsters as well prosecute them, in order to serve as a lesson to others before, after and during elections.

On the security challenges facing the country, the ex-Judge pleaded with the government of the day as well as the security agencies to redouble their efforts to fighting insurgents troubling the society.

Balami, therefore, called on Nigerians to always embrace peace, and shun religious intolerance.
