The management of Government Secondary school, Hajj Camp in Gwagwalada Area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday celebrated Cultural Day in a grand style.
In his welcome address at the occasion, the Principal of the school, Mr Ishaya Doma said: “The diverse cultures we have are the treasures of Nigerian Identity which through the years, frantic efforts are being made to preserve these cultures from extinction”.
According to the Principal, one of the major ways of sustaining these cultures is the reason we are gathered here today.
He said: “The Cultural Day is not just for entertainment. in fact, entertainment seems to be the least of all the purposes for the event. Celebrating Cultural Day educates us and helps us understanding our identity. It fosters respect for one another traditions, above all it helps to unite us”.
The principal, however, charged everyone to deem it necessary to always respect the rich cultural heritage of Nigerians.
Addressing the gathering at the occasion, the Director in charge of the Co-curricular at the FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB), Hajiya Fatima Gambo Baba, commended the management of the school for organising Cultural Day to showcase the cultures of the students.
However, at the end of Cultural Day celebration, Gbagyi cultural troupe took the 1st position, Igbo Cultural troupe maintained the 2nd position and the 3rd position went to Bassa Komu cultural troupe.
