Staff of the FCT public health department are admonished to get screened for cancer to ensure early detection and prompt treatment.
Head of Disease Control, FCT- Public Health Department, Dr. Ngozi Ebisike, made the call during the sensitization session on breast and cervical cancer, organised to raise awareness and encourage proactive health measures among healthcare workers in Abuja.
Ebisike stressed the importance of self-care among healthcare workers and public health administrators.
She also noted that while they dedicate their lives to caring for others, they often neglect their health.
According to her, they should always be conscious of their bodies and pay attention to any changes.
Similarly, the head of the Non-Communicable Disease Unit, Dr. Adeyemi Olubumi provided an in-depth explanation of breast and cervical cancer.
Adeyemi conducted a practical demonstration of self-breast examination and stressed the importance of regular check-ups.
She encouraged all attendees to not only perform self-examinations but also undergo clinical screenings, as early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes.
Disclosing that cancer screening is on-going at Wuse District Hospital, and will continue until the end of February, she urged staff members to take advantage of the opportunity for early detection and prevention.
It was gathered that the sensitisation exercise was part of activities commemorating World Cancer Day, reinforcing the department’s commitment to promoting cancer awareness and prevention among healthcare workers.
