FCT Minister seeks partnership against insecurity, vandalism

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has solicited the support and partnership of the FCT Police Command to check insecurity and vandalism of public assets, in the Territory.
Mallam Bello, who spoke through the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Umar Jibrin, made the call while on a courtesy visit to the new FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, recently.
The Minister expressed concern on the high rate of armed robbery and kidnapping on Bwari-Jere-Kaduna highway and the vandalism of street-lights, electricity cables, manholes and outright burning of transformers.
According to a statement from the FCT Minister’s Chief Press Secretary, Cosmas Uzodinma, Mallam Bello passionately sought for maximum support from the police boss to stem the tide.
It added that the Minister assured the Commissioner of government’s commitment to the resettlement of some of the original inhabitants to Wasa and Galuwyi/Shere resettlement schemes.
“He added that the needed infrastructure had been provided in Galuwyi/Shere where the original inhabitants in Jabi –Yakubu would be resettled soon and assured that effective logistics has been put in place for the exercise.
“He intimated the Commissioner that already, a Police Post had been completed and handed-over to the police at Galuwyi/Shere, adding that a Toyota Hilux Van would be deployed soon for use at the Police Post,” the statement quoted the Minister.
Responding, the Commissioner commended the FCT Administration on infrastructural development in the Territory, saying that there could be no meaningful development without adequate security.
The Police Chief said though the safe-guarding of critical government infrastructure belonged to the Civil Defence Corps, he would give instructions to his men to be vigilant and work hand-in-hand with the Corps as they are all stakeholders.
He therefore assured that security would be beefed up on the Bwari-Jere-Kaduna highway and solicited assistance from the Minister in the area of mobility and communication equipment.
