The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has announced the suspension of its ongoing strike action across all public primary schools under the control of the Local Education Authority in the Territory.
This development comes after the State executive meeting of the Union at the Teachers House in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
FCT Chairman of the NUT,
Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed Shafa, who announced the suspension, attributed the development to the intervention of FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike as the reason.
Shafa commended the primary school teachers for their resilience during the over two-week strike.
Recall that the suspended strike was initially embarked upon due to non-payment of 25 months of minimum wage arrears.

Precisely, primary schools in the nation’s capital since September 18th, 2024 remained closed, following the an Indefinite strike declaration by the FCT wing of the NUT through a communiqué signed by its chairman, to pressed home their demand for settlement of non payment of their outstanding entitlements and other unresolved industrial issues.
However, with Wike’s intervention, it seems a resolution is on the horizon.
