In a bid to ensure regular environmental sanitation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) the FCT Administration has collected and disposed 31, 166 tonnes of solid waste at designated sites in the month of July, the Minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed said.
The minister, according to a recent statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Muhammad Hazat Sule, disclosed this after the FCTA weekly Operations Briefing in his office.
Sen Bala, said that 761 street traders and hawkers were arrested, 674 prosecuted and 31 were sentenced to various prison
terms, however, asserted that the waste was collected and disposed despite the heavy rains that made access to the dump sites difficult.
“The administration also arrested 172 beggars and destitute, including 72 minors, and warned that hard times awaited people who constitute environmental nuisances in the FCT,” he said.
According to the minister, the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) had inspected 1 ,976 premises for proper sanitation and
fumigated 85 premises during the inspection exercise.
