As part of its measures to mitigate the impact of flooding this rainy season, the FCT Emergency Management Department,(FEMD), has barricaded the Ring Road 2 interchange, in Galadimawa area of the FCT.

This was discloses in statement from FEMD’s Head, Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa, which was made available to newsmen in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

It stated that speaking at the closure of the road, the Ag Director General of FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman  Mohammed disclosed that the water level on the slip road is building up, and the place will be flooded.

He added that the closure of the road, which is part of preparedness and mitigation effort, aims to save lives and property in the area.

He however, appealed to residents of the FCT for patience and to seek alternative routes.

According to him, the slip road should have been closed to the vehicular movement in June, but FEMD has been monitoring the water level in the Territory.

He further appealed to residents not to drive into a pool of water, but to wait for it to recede.

Abdulrahman equally urged residents to always use the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of a disaster.

The statement added that the Head Abuja Operations Office, National Emergency Management Agency  (NEMA), Mr. Zakari Abubakar and officials of the Department of Development Control were at the road closure event.

Recall that heavy floods on the slip road which connects Goodluck Jonathan Expressway with Ring Road 2 at Galadimawa in 2019 claimed the life of Director of Finance, FCT High Court ,Mr. Tony Okecheme.
