Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said that the Federal Government is committed to prioritizing tertiary education.
Shettima also said that in FG’s commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, no stone will be left unturned, which is why Federal universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education are exempted from the Integrated Personnel Payment System, IPPS.
Shettima stated this at the University of Maiduguri 2023 National Alumni Association reunion dinner and award night on Thursday, December 14, in Abuja.
Recipients included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Radio Nigeria’s Director General Dr. Muhammad Bulama, former Chief of Defense Staff Tukur Buratai, former Inspector General of Police Alkali Baba, Governor Babagana Zulum, Governor Kefas Agbu, Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarebe, and Minister Uba Maigari Ahmadu.
Represented by FRCN’s Director General, Dr. Muhammed Bulama, the Vice President emphasized the administration’s commitment to prioritizing tertiary education for national development.
“In the midst of this transformation, education, especially tertiary education will occupy a prominent place and priority. No stone will be left unturned to develop the educational sector. This will be done in accordance with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
He highlighted human capital as Nigeria’s vital asset and expressed optimism in bringing about a new era of economic development and prosperity.
The University of Maiduguri’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Aliyu Shugaba, highlighted the institution’s resilience amid a decade-long insurgency.
“Despite challenges, it hosts over 74,000 students, ranking just behind the National Open University Nigeria.”
Acting President of UNIMAID National Alumni Association, Afiniki Hananiya, noted that the Reunion Dinner/Award Night aims to raise funds for supporting the less privileged in their educational pursuits.
