The federal government has expressed concerns over rejection of made-in-Nigeria goods being exported to overseas.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite expressed the concern at a courtesy visit to the Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf yesterday, as part of tour to some states to boost trade, industrialization and investment.
According to her, the rejection of exported Nigerian commodities abroad is worrisome, adding that the federal government would not rest on its ores until the issue is addressed.
She said part of the tour is to meet and liaise with commodity traders on how to improve quality of made-in-Nigeria goods in a bid to be marketable in oversea countries for the overall growth of the economy.
“We have come here to find out why food prices have gone up. We are meeting with the business men here to and agricultural stakeholders to see how we could tackle it.
“The issue of rejection of Nigerian commodities abroad is worrisome. It affects the economy and we shall collaborate with commodity traders for the improvement of the commodities,” she said.
The Minister also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to eradicate poverty among Nigerians and create more job opportunities to the teeming population of the country.
She said in line with the eight point agenda of president Bola Ahmad Tinubu administration, the ministry is working assiduously in ensuring that industries are being revived so that more job opportunities would be provided.
The Minister said the purpose of her visit to Kano was to asses the level of industrialization and gather Dldata on the challenges that needed urgent attention ,geared towards reviving the industrial development.
Uzoka-Anite maintained that the ministry was committed in ensuring that the export of value added products were being enhanced so that comparative advantages would be explored .
