Worried by the falling standard of education in Nigeria, the federal government has been called upon to as a matter of urgency declare a state of emergency in the education sector as a necessary measure to address the situation and save it from further collapse.
A retired Director of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration, Alhaji Sagir Hamisu stated this while addressing newsmen shortly after the 3rd year graduation ceremony of the FAMAKS International School, Kaduna.
According to Hamisu, who is the founder of the school and a 2015 governorship aspirant for Zamfara state on the platform of the PeoplesDemocratic Party (PDP), the government is trying its best, but that more needs to be done in the education sector to meet international standard.
He also attributed the lack of quality education to being a contributory factor to the insurgencies being experienced across the country, stressing that once the problems of education is adequately addressed and students are more engaged in schools than at home occasioned by recurring strike actions, it will be better off for the country.
