Kebbi NLC to embark on strike

Date:

From Ahmed Idris, Birnin Kebbi

Despite the 21 days ultimatum given to the Kebbi state government by the Leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the state chapter of the Nigeria Trade Union (NUT), over their demands on Tuesday, the meeting with the government ended in deadlock, as the three bodies refused to change ground, thereby resulting to the labour declaring total strike action across the state.

Addressing newsmen at the NUT office, the chairman of the NLC comrade Abubkari Sadique Ka’oje, said that last month the union gave the state government an ultimatum, which expired Tuesday, after the disagreements between the three bodies.

‘‘Our request is that the state government should issue the circular that would determine the position of every civil servant in the state on the N18,000 minimum wage and also the retirement benefits of workers’’ he affirmed.

He then urged all the civil servants in the state to remain at home until the government agrees to their demands.
