Nigerian students have been called upon to engage in constructive dialogue in place of violence as a means of resolving conflict.
Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Education Arc. Sonny Echono made the call in Abuja during a one- day retreat for capacity building of students union executives in Federal Tertiary Institutions.
The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the Deputy Director Colleges of Education, Mr. Femi Ajaye said that students should always take adequate steps to prevent strife which could eventually lead to escalation, shutdown and disruption of academic calendar in their various institutions.
He also said that the students executives are the institutions image-makers, and as such they have the duty of building harmony and a peaceful academic calendar.
Speaking of suicide, Director Tertiary, Mr. Samuel Ojo, charged participants not to see suicide as an option in life.
Mr. Ojo decried the rising cases of suicide amongst the student of tertiary institutions in the country in recent times.
Speaking at the event, resource person, Mr. Francis Binuyo urged the students to shun violence at all cost, urging them to use information creditably well in order to achieve what they want.
