The minister of communication technology Mrs. Omobola Johnson yesterday called on service providers in the country to improve on the quality of services.
The minister made the call at the auction of 30 MHz Slot of the 2.3 GHz Spectrum band in Abuja. According to her, all the telecom operators in the country need to seek more innovative and creative ways of deploying infrastructure in order to provide quality services to the citizenry.
The minister who was represented by Dr. Tunji Olaopa, permanent secretary ministry of communication technology, explained that the ministry would not relent in demanding for better quality of service to consumers, adding that all obstacles and barriers to speedy investment and deployment of services especially in the area of broadband would be addressed by the ministry.
“At this stage of our development, high quality services are in very high demand and “We cannot move fast in the speed direction of broadband with poor quality of services. We hope that the winner of this auction will make quality service a priority. “The minister stated.
She stressed the determination of the Federal Government to accelerate the level of Internet penetration in the country.
According to her, the sensitization programme under the National Broadband Roadmap was established with the aim to mobilize the industry, the government and the general public on the benefit of broadband.
“We will continue to make reference to the often quoted statistics of a 10 per cent increase in broadband penetration delivering a 1.3 per cent increase in GDP, She said.
