FIFA intervention saves Maigari’s job

Date:

Aminu-Maigari2The World Football Governing Body (FIFA) has ordered Aminu Maigari back to office as president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The NFF executive committee had last month purportedly impeached Maigari.

But in a letter dated August 14 to NFF general secretary Musa Amadu and signed by Markus Kattner, FIFA deputy secretary general, FIFA clearly stated: “The executive committee of the NFF shall also be reunified as it was before the 2014 World Cup.”

This implies that “suspended” Chris Green and Ahmed Yusuf ‘Fresh’ have also been re-instated to the executive committee.

The soccer ruling body said the meeting during which Maigari was allegedly sacked “did’nt complies with some statutory provisions (eg deadlines for the convocation of the meeting and for the sending of the agenda).

“In addition, in a correspondence addressed to FIFA, Mr Maigari denied the course of the events and complained that he had not been given the possibility to answer the allegations against him.”

FIFA further directed that Maigari should preside over the August 26 elective congress billed for Warri, Delta State.

FIFA also questioned the decisions of the executive committee.

“The recent decisions of the executive committee are highly questionable with regard to the compliance of the statutes and should anyway be confirmed by the congress,” read the letter in part.

The world football ruling body also advised that all major decisions concerning Nigeria football be put on ice until after the August 26 polls.

This would also mean that discussions with Coach Stephen Keshi over a new contract may now be suspended till after the elections.

Ironically, Maigari’s re-instatement comes on a day when a section of the Nigerian media had reported he has resigned as NFF president.
