Fire razes GGSSS Yauri

Fire erupted yesterday, burning some blocks of Government Girls Science Secondary School (GGSSS) Yauri, in Kebbi state.

In a telephone interview with our correspondent, an indigene of the area, Malam Lawal Aliyu Yauri alleged that this was the fourth time some section of the school’s blocks would be affected by fire without the authorities concerned taking necessary measures to forestall a reoccurrence.

Though there was no loss of lives or property, Malam Yauri said that the affected part of the school was completely burnt to ashes before men of the fire service put it under control.

Attempts by our reporter to contact the school’s principal, Hajiya Halima Hassan on phone over the incident failed, as her lines were switched-off.

But a Statesman, and former Deputy Governor of Kebbi state, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu confirmed the incident, however he pointed out that he has been confronting the state’s commissioner of science and technical education, Alhaji Ruwa R K Dakingari on several occasions over such incidents, especially when it happened the second and third time, for his ministry to do something about it.

‘’ But instead of Ruwa RK to listen to my complaints so as to take necessary measures against future occurrence, he asked me to stop interfering in the affairs of his ministry’’ Argungu lamented,
