FIRS generates N9.812trillion in 2 years, Mashi tells Reps

Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Alhaji Kabiru Mashi, yesterday told the members of the House of Representatives that the agency generated N9.812 trillion within 2012 and 2013 fiscal years.

Mashi who appeared before the House committee on Finance chaired by Rep Abdulmumini Jibrin in hearing of the framework for the 2014 budget and Nigerian economy, explained that the agency generated N5.007trillion in 2012 and made N4.805trillion in 2013.

Asked what FIRS generated in the last three years, and the Commission’s projections for 2014, Mashi said that FIRS generation of N4.805 trillion was against the Budget target of N4.4 trillion in 2013.

“We collected N5.007 trillion in 2012 against our target of N3.6 trillion. In 2011, we collected N4.6 trillion against our budget of N3. 7 trillion.

Jibrin, who treated the FIRS presentation with dispatch explained that the committee had considered the FIRS projections for 2014 to a point when it looked at the commission’s 2014 Budget about two weeks ago.

Other agencies whose projections were being considered as at press time yesterday include Nigerian Customs Service and the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission, NNPC.
