The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), has symphathized with farmers in Argungu Local Government Area and other parts of Kebbi and Niger States whose farm produce were destroyed by recent flood disaster.
The Head, Press and Public Affairs, N-HYPPADEC, Nura Tanko Wakili in a statement expressed concern, described the incidence as a very sad development capable of affecting the country’s drive to enhancing sustainability and food security.
The Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa noted with concern the effects on the livelihoods of the affected communities and commended the Federal Government for its prompt response in setting aside N3 billion to support victims of the disaster.
The Commission had earlier embarked on sensitization campaigns through the mass media and advocacy visits which minimized the impact of the flood on riverine settlements.
It therefore emphasized the need for strict adherence to safety measures by the affected communities as predictions by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) of rising water levels on the Rivers Rima and Niger.
