Flying Eagles beat FC Abuja ahead of Under-20 Championship

Ahead of the Niger Republic 2019African Under-20 Championship second round qualifier in May this year, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria who are currently camping at the Package B of the National Stadium, Abuja, yesterday defeated FC Abuja 2-1 in a friendly match.
The match played at the Package B Goal Project field, saw the Flying Eagles score their two goals in the first half while FC Abuja got a consolation in the second half of the encounter.
Wasiu Alalade and Ikeouwem scored for the Flying Eagles while Christian Innocent scored for FC Abuja in an entertaining encounter. The match is the first test game the team is playing since it started camping weeks ago.
In an interview earlier, coach of the side, Paul Aigbogun said that the players were responding to training and tactical formations stressing that age issues among the players have been sorted out by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
Aigbogun who said that the team has been enjoying the support of the NFF said that the Flying Eagles represent the future of Nigeria football.
According to the coach “The team is responding fine to training. This is our second training and we have a full house. Our players last week played in the CAF leagues and they are back with us. It will take a while to blend the team but everybody is doing what is expected of him and they will get better.
“On the issue of the ages of the players, once a player is called up for national team assignment, the issue of his age is sorted out by the federation, they run the checks before the names are released.
“The support of the federation is fantastic. This team represents the future of the country. The reality is that this is part of the team that will be playing in the 2022 World Cup and it is a great future for the country,” the coach said.
